2008 User Registration

1. General Information

User registration at MMI is via the JobDesk system. The JobDesk is a web based Request/Respond system, users log a ‘request’ ie registration, or specific instrument training and the MMI staff ‘respond’ to the request. This system requires that you are a member of the MMI – Imaging Group and have a Monash Authcate or an Ext-Authcate. 

1.1 MMI Pre-Requisites

In order to facilitate user access and productivity we recommend that users check they have the following pre-requisites:

  • Their department is a member of the Monash Imaging Group
  • Obtain a Monash Authcate or Ext-Authcate
  • Have access to the MNHS Data Store or a similar storage facility.

2. Getting a Monash Authcate or Ext-Authcate

2.1 Monash Staff and Post Graduate Students

Monash post graduate students and staff members may request a Monash Authcate via their respective departmental IT representative.  Postgraduate students must ensure that their authcate and subsequent email address are part of the 'Staff Tree' and not the 'Student Tree' otherwise your access won't work effectively. 

2.2 Users from Other Institutes

Users of institutes not directly related to Monash University may request an ext-authcate from MMI, provided they are a member of the MMI - Imaging Group.  Please email Anna JenkinsMicroscopy@med.monash.edu.au with the subject line "Requesting ext-authcate", in the body of the email please include the following:

  • Title
  • First Name
  • Surname
  • Status ie Staff, Phd Student etc
  • Staff/Student ID number
  • Phone
  • Email
  • Supervisor's  First Name and Surname

3. Data Storage

Users from the Faculty of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences can obtain data storage space on the MNHS Data Store via your departmental IT representative or via IT Med, subject to the approval of your Lab Head.

External users who are members of the MMI Imaging Group may purchase data storage space on the MNHS Data Store. Please email Microscopy@med.monash.edu.au with "Purchase MNHS Data Store space" in the subject line. In the body of the email please indicate the number of Tb you require.

Users who wish to use an alternate data storage facility need to ensure that the MMI network and nominated data store can communicate for data transfer.  

4. Registering As a User of MMI

4.1 For all Monash University Schools/Departments part of the MMI - Imaging Group

To register as a user of MMI please follow the instructions below for your particular circumstance.  If you are unsure please call Anna Jenkins on (03) 9902 0877.

  • Confirmation via JobDesk will include the MMI Induction document.
    • Please familiarise yourself with these document.
  • A meeting with the prospective user and supervisor may also be requested to further discuss imaging requirements.
  • Please ensure you fill in ALL fields in the 'Submit Job Form' and select the appropriate 'Job Type' from the drop down list for ALL Jobs requested.
    Incomplete jobs will NOT be actioned. 

4.1.1 Existing Users of MMI

For all users of MMI in 2007 who intend on re-registering for 2008 please submit a registration job ONLY via JobDesk, following the instructions in "Using the JobDesk".

Your 'completed' training records from 2007 will remain valid provided you register and use the instrumentation within 3 months of your last use. Any longer and your license will become void and you will need refresher Instrument Operator Training via the normal JobDesk process.

4.1.2 New Users to MMI

All prospective users from Monash University should have a Monash Authcate, users from other affiliated institutions ie Baker-IDI and Burnet  Institutes need to obtain an Ext-Authcate.

Getting a Monash Authcate or Ext-Authcate (Refer Item 2 above)

On completion of the General Introduction to Microscopy workshop users may the use Jobdesk to log jobs for practical training on the microscopes they wish to use, using the following general instructions in "Using the JobDesk".

On completion of the practical training users will be licensed, added to the Calendar system (available via the MMI website) and will be able to book instruments independently.

4.2 For all other Monash Groups, Non Monash University Groups and Industry
