MMI - Training 2008

1. General Information

MMI will provide training in Microscopy and Imaging for users in the following areas:

  • general introduction to microscopy, for new users and postgraduates
  • microscope operator training 
  • advice and supervision for project work
  • specialised training for advanced microscopy applications
  • image analysis, quantitation and interpretation

The specific program schedule will be as follows:

i) General Introduction to Microscopy for new postgraduate students. 1-day workshop, compulsory for all new users of MMI Instrumentation

a. Clayton Campus: Wed 26th March 2008, Physiology Seminar Room, Building 13F, Clayton.

b. AMREP: Friday 28th March 2008, for Monash Alfred groups, Baker Heart Research Institute, and Burnet Institute at AMREP Seminar Room, AMREP Education Center

c. Monash Medical Centre: Please attend training on the Clayton Campus on 26th March 2008

ii) Instrument Operator Training: will include a brief theoretical overview coupled with ‘hands on” operator training: (monthly, 2-4 hrs) – Theory sessions will run on 1st Monday of the month, 10am - 12am, in Building 75.

iii) Follow-up Application Training: includes sessions for colocalisation, 3D imaging, deconvolution, live cell imaging, FRAP, FRET, specimen preparation or any other requested areas.

  1. Image analysis: we currently support
  2. basic analysis (would suit most packages)
  3. image analysis using SiS Analysis
  4. 3D analysis [Voxblast, AnalySis and Imaris]

General Introduction To Microscopy - Program

1.1 Costs of Training

The fee for registration, training and access to MMI instruments is $250 (Hons students), and $500 (PhD and Staff). This is an annual registration fee, and will cover all further training.
