Live Cell Imaging Workshop

MMI will be running their Live Cell Imaging course from 1-4 December 2008 at Clayton.

Optiportal at MMI

Monash Micro Imaging, as a result of an ARC linkage grant between Monash scientists and Leica Microsystems, has established an Optiportal in its Image Analysis & Visualisation Lab in the STRIP at Clayton.

05/02/2008 - Access to MMI in Building 75

On completion of the MMI refurbishment, access to MMI in Building 75 will be via the Monash University 'Proximity Card' system.  In the interim while MMI is undergoing refurbishment the Microscopy Laboratory and the Image Processing Laboratory will operate during the business hours of 9:00am to 5:00pm.

After hours access to MMI in building 75 during the interim period will be provided via 'key rings' that users/depts can sign out from MMI, for a nominated duration.

The key rings will have the three 'keys' necessary to access MMI:

  1. An electronic fob for the external doors to Bldg 75
  2. A key to the Microscopy Laboratory
  3. A key to the Image Processing Laboratory

If you require after hours access please see George Theodossiou (Rm CG24, Bldg 13C) prior to Friday 8th February, as I will be attending the ACMM-20 Conference in Perth from the 10th to 17th February.

01/02/2008 - MMI Staff Attending the ACMM-20 Conference

During the week of February 10th MMI staff will be attending the Australian Conference on Microscopy and Microanalysis (ACMM-20) in Perth.

During this time support for MMI users will be provided by:

Electron Microscopy (Emergencies Only)

Dr Sharon Flecknoe, Dept of Physiology, x59564, Sharon.Flecknoe@med.monash.edu.au

Confocal and Optical Microscopy

Mr Camden Lo, MMI, , Camden.Lo@med.monash.edu.au

Ms Monica Naughtin, Dept of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, , Monica.Naughtin@med.monash.edu.au

Ms Megan Astle, Dept of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, , Megan.Astle@med.monash.edu.au

  • Camden will be available everyday from 9am to 5pm.
  • Monica and Megan will be available from 2pm to 5pm.

MMI Optical and Confocal Microscopy Re-open for Use in Building 75

MMI has completed the relocation of microscopes from the basement of building 17 to building 75.  This is Phase 1 of the relocation/refurbishment.  For the period 23rd January to approximately April/May all of the confocal microscopes & most of the Fluorescence systems will be located in room G55, Building 75.  Support facilities include a fridge, CO2 incubator and limited lab bench space.  Please discuss your requirements wih MMI staff, to ensure we can meet them during this transition period.

Normal hours access: Entry to room G55 is via the double doors in the (South) corridor of building 75.  A sign will be posted.

After hours access: The feasibility of after hours access is being investigated as this will require new swipe cards and keys.
Please indicate to George Theodossiou if you require after hours access.

MMI Developments And Invitation

Some of you might be aware that MMI will be moving into Building 75 (STRIP 1) on the Clayton campus during 2008, as part of a general development of ARMI / SOBS and the STRIP. For a number of reasons, however, there has been an acceleration of the plans that affect MMI , necessitating the urgent move of MMI Optical Microscopy to Building 75 in the next 2-3 weeks.  All EM (ie the SEM) will be consolidated to Building 13C (Ground floor). In the long term, we will therefore have MMI EM in Building 13C (which will expand later) and MMI Optical Microscopy and Imaging in Building 75.

In order to inform you and give you a feel for the new area and the developments there, Lab Heads/Supervisors or representatives are invited to a briefing on Friday 11th January. Please gather on the Ground floor, South corridor of Building 75.
    10am
or
    2pm.

PLEASE NOTE:  All Heads or Supervisors are welcome, Plus a senior or major imaging user from each lab.  Thus a total of no more than 2 people per lab/group.
We will brief you on plans, access and developments over the next 2 weeks, as well as how the rest of the year is likely to shape up. Final development of MMI in Building 75 is likely to be around Sept 08, and will provide dedicated areas for:
Live Cell Imaging (PC2)
Tissue Culture (PC2)
Confocal labs
Light Microscopy Lab
Imaging Analysis Lab
Training area
Instrument Development Labs

As it will be very difficult to be exact with times for the process of instrument relocation and re-commissioning, please refer to the Calcium Calendar and the MMI website (www.microimaging.org.au/news.html) for the latest  regarding instrument accessability. AS from Thursday 10th January, we will start dismantling machines and moving them over, so we apologise for this interruption and will try and minimise the impact on your work as best we can. However, due to factors beyond our control, we will have most confocal and optical systems systems down from 14 - 21 January AT LEAST.  Image analysis will be down for a shorter period.

Please contact MMI staff if you have urgent requirements, and we will see how and if we can help. We will alert users via Calendar and the MMI website when instruments are again available.
